Tricare. Omnipod.= Issues

I am a relaxed, goofy, free spirited person. When you mess with my family or my health there’s an issue–a huge issue.

Here’s my issue:

Febuary 9, 2009 I called Insulet to re-order my pods. I knew Insulet runs a little slow in processing re-fills, not sure why. I was told by a CSR, my referral would be submitted.

I called back a couple of days later, talked to the same rep. She said everything was processed, it takes up to 72 hours for approval.

A few days later I received a e-mail from Tricare about my authorization request. Yeppie, I can re order my supplies. I logged on to Tricares website. The request read *Non-Approved*. WTH, why would they deny supplies to a pump they approved? I was a little confused and upset.

Monday, I called the supervisor at Insulet. I explained the pod’s had been denied. She said they have issues with Tricare paying for the Omnipod system.
She wasn’t sure why. She said she would call Tricare. The Supervisor from Insulet called me back, the CPT codes they use for the POD’s are considered investigational and will not be paid for.
At this point my blood is boiling.
I called Tricare with the Super from Insulet. I was told the codes from the Omnipod weren’t correct. The Tricare rep told me, the codes was for a whole new insulin system. The Super and I explained I already had the pump, just needed the supplies. The Tricare rep said she would make a note on the auth, request is for supplies only not the pump.

I hung up with Tricare and The Omnipod Super.

3 days later I called the Omnipod Super. She said she would talk to the billing dept Super to see if there are different codes. I haven’t heard from the the Supervisor from Insulet.

I hate testing at………

I am laying in bed, PDM (meter) on my night stand, should be my motivation to test before bed, right? Wrong!
I have an issue. I hate testing my bg’s before bed. I would rather lay down, watch T.V. and fall asleep–like any other American! I know I’m not any other American, I have Diabetes. Not testing at night means I’m willing to accept the consquences of waking up with a HIGH fasting blood sugar, I did it last night— I’m not willing to accept another HIGH fasting number (130). I am trying to get better control. So, I am going to roll over test my bg’s and bolus if needed.

Got my PDM in hand…5-4-3-2-1! Oh my 191…10 piece chicken nugget meal w/ side salad made me that high…

*WTFudge Cake*

I’m glad I followed my first thought and rebuked my “none” diabetic thoughts.

Vlog: Meet-up with Ninjabetic, ScottieJ and Jaimie H.

This weekend was amazing as you see by the V to The L-O-G above, I had a chance to meet a couple of D-blog Powerhouses, Ninjabetic aka George and Scott (diabetes daily) and Jaimie H. OMG! it was amazing.  We talked about our families, iphones, our families, life and diabetes.  Let’s just say that my theory is true.  I don’t consider the people I interact on line just internet people,  I consider them my friends.  Diabetes can be challenging but in the end it has allowed me to meet people from all walks of life.  Pricking, carb counting, insulin can get little old. The friendship’s are worth it.  Diabetic bonding is good for the soul.  Meeting people who face the same struggles you face everyday…PRICELESS!

One Low Number, throws me off

Sunday, I went to my other house to pick up a few things, yadda, yadda.  I ate a snack before I left home, moving a lot lowers my bg’s fast.  I decided to eat a Quaker Oat bar, thought it would work but it didn’t.  I promised I would take my daughter to Red Robin, she was sleep.  I went to Jack in the Box for lunch instead.  I checked my bg’s 62.  Glad I caught it before it went any lower.  I ate and bolused accordingly.

Later that night I went to Red Robin; I’m so tired of that place.  My Pre-meal bg was in the 180’s (what’s really going on).  I ordered a chicken salad, with poppy seed dressing and ate a fewfries.  I tested before I went to bed, 202. My first thought, poppy seed dressing shouldn’t bother my bg’s that much. Second thought, I almost knocked my Pod off. Checked my site, everything looks good.  I went to bed…fasting BG 120.

I am not sure what happened, it’s amazing how not one day is the same with Diabetes.

Alternate site testing

I have been a diabetic since 2004.  I have always tested using my fingers.  The other day I thought I about using the alternate site testing feature on my meter, lol.  The thought left as fast as it came to my mind.  The thought of me taking a needle to my feet or forearm doesn’t sound appealing to me at all. I would rather give myself a shot in the stomach rather than prick my forearm or feet.   What other part of your body do you use to test your blood glucose level’s?  I need some help on this one…finger’s are getting a little worn out.
