I was at work talking about Diabetes to a couple of co-worker’s. I decided to explain what the difference between T-1 and T-2.
Co-worker (A): “OMG, I didn’t know you are a diabetic. You poor thing.”
Me: “No worries, it’s ok. No big deal. I have the slow onset of Type 1/LADA. ”
Co-worker (B): “Do you take pills or insulin shots?”
Me: “I am on an insulin pump.”
Co-worker (A and B): “Oh no!”
Me: “It’s ok. I’m ok seriously. I am not dying.”
Co-worker (B): “Where is your pump?”
Me: “It’s right here (pointing to the outside of my butt cheek.”
Co-worker (A): “So, can you move it?”
Co-worker A and B had a puzzled look on their face. I tried explaining the Omnipod, they didn’t get it. I asked if they wanted to see it. They said sure. I closed the door. I still can’t believe I did this–I pulled my pants down and showed them the Omnipod and the side of my BUTT cheek. hahaha BTW, Co-worker A&B are females. I explained the Omnipod system and they understood.
Geesh, the things you have to do it get people to understand what living with Diabetes is like.
